Tektite Buddha from Gemstoneuniverse museum of Collectibles and Rare Gems

Gemstone Universe has recently added a special spherical tektite or aakaashmani to its museum of collectible and rare gems. Along with it has been added, a finely fashioned serene Buddha out of the same tektite material. The tektite sphere is a beautifully engaging black in color and exudes an aura of mystery.

Tektites are of meteoric origin that formed upon the meteoric impact on the earth’s surface. The word tektite coming from the Greek word ‘tektos’, meaning molten. This material is basically a sparkly, glassy material that has a pitted and grooved surface and displays a rare scintilla when light is cast on it.

What makes the tektite interesting is the fact that unlike most gemstones that are formed deep within the earth, the tektite is formed upon the meteoric impact with the surface material of the earth. The high impact melts and molds this object and sends its spinning back into the space only to return and cool into these marvelously shaped tektites found in the earth’s four strewnfields (North American, Australasian, Ivory Coast and Central European).

The central European tektite is a lovely green in color and goes by the name of Moldavite. The Australasian tektite is usually dark and black in color. The shapes that they are found in resemble sphere, ovals, teardrops, dumbbells, discs etc.  The tektites are similar to glass and very, very close to obsidian, from which they can be differentiated with the help of certain tests only.

The particular tektite with us is an Indochinite of the Australasian strewnfield. This category of tektites is found in northern Thailand, which is also home to the rare phenomenon of meteoric showers. It is estimated that these pieces of solidified magma are nothing less than 700,000 years old.

The tektite is one of the driest materials with bare minimum water content. Its rebound into space is the possible reason for the lack of moisture, which is accepted by the scientists.

The tektite holds a very special place in the world of healing. For the ancient Chinese, tektite was the Ink stone of the Thunder god. There are numerous talismans fashioned using tektites and they are believed to be greatly protective against evil eye. They have been worn by the ancients as talismans and jewelry as symbol of fertility and abundance also.

The absence of a complex inner structure facilitates fast movement of energy through this stone. The tektite is a stone that is believed to aid psychic abilities, increase the energy field of an individual and enhance telepathic communication. No wonder the aakaashmani can channel the aakaashic records for the diviner. So if you are one aiming to get a head start in your spiritual life, aakaashmani is what you can look to for help. Meditation with this particular stone is also enhances personal power. And what more to be desired if you are able to meditate with Buddha fashioned of this stone!

Comments Awestruck! Yes that was the feeling we got once this Gemstone was set and came in the galleria after consecration in the temple. The feeling is indescribable to even have the good fortune to view this sacred gemstone. Yes, it is so rare, so pure, so magical. Chances 1 in a 1000.

The moment it was put in our galleria under Yellow Light it underwent a transformation and we saw one of the most fascinating sights. The full play of the optical phenomena of Chatoyancy and Chatoyancy that is considered in the Shastras to be the very BEST-Yes, The best.

What makes this Cat’s Eye Chrysoberyl so special is the full 3 chatoyant bands running end to end? A Cat’s Eye with a Yellowish Green hue and full 3 lines is known in the sacred texts as the Brahaman Vaidurya- A Cat’s Eye of the Brahmin class.

It is supposed to be either for the elite, the chosen ones or the very blessed as this one is so rare in nature and has the full 3 lines. The 3 Chatoyant Bands are like the Brahma Sutras/ Janeu/ Sacred threads worn by the Brahmins who have the blessing of the knowledge of Vedic Texts.

A Brahmin Cat’s eye brings so much good luck and benefits that it is difficult to put in words.

When this piece was uploaded and pictured we did not notice this phenomenon to this level. You can see the original picture of the Gem by clicking the link below. Once set this came out as premium collectible quality and could have retailed at normally 8-10 times the price the gem was originally listed.

But Good, Sattvik Gems choose the individual with whom they want to remain and empower and such Sattvik gems reach their true owner regardless of price, circumstances or anything. Truly mindblowing, truly special.

Goes to a patron who has already implemented a portion of Gem therapy earlier in 2010 using unheated and natural gemstones. The patron had ordered a different Cat’s eye but that order was not placed successfully. The very next day this single piece of Cat’s Eye was listed and second time around there were no errors. She bought this one or maybe It went to her.

Unheated Gem and Jyotish quality Burma ruby out of the reach of anyone except connoisseurs, wealth managers and collectors-Live report from the 47th Bangkok Gem and Jewellery Show and our forecast from the 46th Show was bang on target.

Unheated Mogok Burma Ruby.Starting asking price of these lovelies is $10000US per carat

Unheated Mogok Burma Ruby.Starting asking price of these lovelies is $10000US per carat

Ruby the divine gem of the Sun is now out of the reach for those on a budget.  For a ruby to be classified as Jyotish Quality:

-          The Ruby should be fully natural. No trace elements, no filling, no composites at all.

-          The Ruby should have a clarity level of 85%+

World over the Burma Ruby has always enjoyed a premium position because of its rarity, alluring color and the mythical legends attached to it. Well rarity and this rubies definitely attractive quality led to huge demand and because of low supply it led to:

-          High Price with the best to be afforded only to real gem lovers, connoisseurs and investment managers.

-          Mass production and subsequent enhancement measures such as glass filling. ( These have no use in Jyotish).

Well this year the price has doubled in just 6 months. For the last years report on Rubies please click here.

Premium quality Burma ruby that is fully natural and in the range of 2+ carats with good clarity levels is trading at $10,000 per carat provided one buys the whole lot. This is a B2B price.

Unheated Mong Hsu Burma ruby small lot acquired by Gemstoneuniverse. Notice the color is finer than Mogok

Unheated Mong Hsu Burma ruby small lot acquired by Gemstoneuniverse. Notice the color is finer than Mogok

It comes with the rider that you need to buy all the Rubies in the lot to get a price of $10,000 per carat and this price is negotiated by the best of professionals in business.

The Good News:

A mine in Madagascar is producing fine quality Rubies which are scarlet red( Yes beautiful scarlet red with no heat) with a tint of purple which is quite close to the Imperial Pigeon Blood color. To know more about the Imperial pigeon blood color please click here.

Similarly a mine in Mozambique is producing fine rubies with gorgeous transparency with no enhancing treatment and these are available if you search hard enough. Both of these rubies are available at a fraction of a price.

Gemstoneuniverse has acquired two beautiful lots of both of them and these will be made available to you shortly.

Unheated Mozambique Ruby having delightful transparency. gemstoneuniverse

Unheated Mozambique Ruby having delightful transparency. gemstoneuniverse

The maybe bad news:

Both Madagascar and Mozambique Rubies that are treatment free are going the same way as fine Burmese Rubies when it comes to the price. Unless both these mines produce fine quality rubies in abundance the price will be stable but it’s a big IF. No one can give accurate supply projections as of now but whether you are a fan of planetary Gemmology or an investor or a wealth manager grab them now before its too late.

We just hope that in next 6 months they don’t go the same way as the Burma Rubies.

And a delightful News and a tip

There is a small lot of Burma ruby too, which you are going to love. Take smaller beautiful fully natural Burma Rubies and mix and match using creativity to make 3 stone or 4 stone rings in case you want to make up the weight.

Note: All Images from the show are taken using the camera of the I Phone 3GS as Cameras are not allowed in the show premises.

Chakra Therapy with Natural Gemstones –Balance the Energy Centres of the Body for an optimized living!

Chakra Therapy with Natural Gemstones –Balance the Energy Centres of the Body for an optimized  and Joyful living!

Pictorial Representation of the Chakras/Energy Centers in the Human Body

Pictorial Representation of the Chakras/Energy Centers in the Human Body

The healing powers and mystique of Gemstones have enchanted mankind since centuries. Ancient Vedic scriptures talk about gems and their healing properties. Ayurveda, which is the traditional Indian medicine, extensively mentions of medicinal preparations using natural Gemstones. Praval Pishti ( Made from Red Coral), Vajra Bhasma( Made from Diamond) and Muktha Pishti ( Made from Natural Pearl) are  some of the well known examples.

What are the Chakras/ Energy Centres?

According to traditional Indian medicine, the human body is made up of 7 primary chakras. Chakra basically means wheel, and chakras are believed to contain the life force energy and considered to be the Prana in the human body. Chakras are energy centres located along the spine of the human body, starting from the base of the spine and going to the crown of the head.

An Introduction to the Primary 7 chakras and the Gemstones of Each Chakra:

Muladhara Chakra

Muladhara Chakra

1)    The MULDHARA chakra or Base chakra, which is located at the Perineum/Prostrate and associated with the testes/ovaries. This is also called the Root chakra, and if the root is weak, the tree will also be weak. This chakra controls the whole physical body. The cosmic colour is Red.

The emotion that affects the functions of the Muldhara chakra control is fear. One of the gems that can heal and energise that Muldhara chakra is the Natural Ruby, the gem of the King of all planets and the planet that is associated with strength – Sun.

4)    The ANAHATA chakra or the heart chakra, which corresponds with the Thymus gland located at the chest/Heart area. This chakra has the ability to manifest all that your soul desires, and is associated with love and compassion. The cosmic colour is Green.

Emerald The Gem of Mercury is sued for healing the Anahata Chakra

Even though nodes, Rahu and Ketu are not considered planets, they are still seen as the representation of the Ultra Violet and Infrared rays.

The gemstone of Rahu is Natural Hessonite and of Ketu is Natural Cat’s Eye.

Natural Hessonite-The Gem of Rahu

Natural Cat's Eye-The Gem of Ketu

It is not just a coincidence that there are not only 7 primary chakras and 7 basic colours, but also 7 basic planets according to Vedic astrology and traditional Indian medicine!

The KURMA PURANA states that the seven planets are to be seen as condensations of the seven cosmic rays. And the greatest condensation of the cosmic rays is in gems.

Each planet is also represented by a cosmic colour, as each planet represents a chakra, and the gemstone corresponding to the respective planet is believed to stimulate the corresponding chakra by harnessing the corresponding cosmic colour! How fascinating is the world of ancient Vedic wisdom!

Chakras-Controlling Planets and Cosmic Colors

SUN RED MULDHARA
MOON ORANGE SWADHISTHANA
MARS YELLOW MANIPURA
MERCURY GREEN ANAHATA
JUPITER BLUE VISHUDDA
VENUS INDIGO AJNA
SATURN VIOLET SAHASRARA

The Vedic horoscope is also an indication as to which planet and chakra of an individual has to and can be stimulated and balanced by gem therapy for the optimization of the mind, body and soul. And in the hands of a competent Astro – gemmologist, this can work wonders in a person’s life and can help in optimizing materialistic, emotional and spiritual desires!

One should be cautious, sure and responsible while implementing Gem Therapy. Just as Gems can balance the Chakras and lead to harmony similarly wearing incorrect gemstones with incorrect weights can cause imbalance and disturbance.

Engraved Horoscopic Gems-Glyptic Art, a class apart!

Engraved Horoscopic Gems

Glyptic Art, a class apart

That gemstones have fascinated human beings from the earliest times is a well-known fact. There are enough and more examples that list collectors who have taken tremendous pains and have given enormous wealth to possess some rare pieces. What is relatively lesser known is the fact that the ancients were staunch believers in the astrological potential of the gemstones.

The art of Gem carving is worth more than a note as often times it takes a specialist who has the makings of an artist to painstakingly engrave beautiful images on small surfaces that quite often are brittle. And a mistake in this process would prove to be quite a costly affair as gemstones are expensive.

There are many specimens of glyptic art that have been preserved till date but among them the ones that deserve real study and attention are the ones that have horoscopic detail included. The most famous examples known are described by George Frederick Kunz (incidentally this master of gems is also famous for discovering a new variety of pink spodumene, which was subsequently named after him- Kunzite) in his book, The Curious Lore Of Precious Stones (1938).

Curious Lore of Precious Stones-George Frederick Kunz

Curious Lore of Precious Stones-George Frederick Kunz

In this book, there is a mention of letters of M. Mairan who describes a fine carnelian gem engraved a star surrounded by the images of a goat, a bull, and a lion. He sees in the star the symbolic of the splendid comet which appeared shortly after the assassination of Caesar, and which, according to Suetonius, was believed to be the soul of Caesar newly received into the sky; the goat, bull, and lion are the symbols of the zodiacal signs Aries, Taurus, and Leo, the first-named sign referring perhaps to the death of Caesar on the Ides, or fifteenth of March; while the other two signs may allude to the position of the comet at different dates.

Kunz wrote,”Some choice example of astrological gems may be seen in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; among these is a green jasper bearing symbols of Luna, Capricorn, and Taurus. This gem is from the collection of the late Rev. C. W. King, which has been acquired for the Museum, and is described as figuring the horoscope of the owner.

In the same collection is a banded agate engraved with Sagittarius as a centaur, surrounded by the stars of this constellation in their proper order. King states that this was the earliest horoscopical gem known to him. Still another gem of this collection is a sard bearing the symbol of Aries carrying a long caduceus (The caduceus is the staff carried by Hermes in Greek mythology); this type appears on the coins of Antioch, because that city was founded in the month over which the sign Aries presides.”

Roman intaglio portrait of Caracalla in amethyst

There is also the mention of celebrated Gemma Augustea at The Austrian Imperial Collection in Vienna. Above the figure of Augustus, appears the sign of Capricorn, the constellation of his nativity; beneath the figure of Tiberius is engraved the sign of Scorpio, under which that emperor was born. This celebrated cameo, the work of the famous gem-engraver Dioskorides, is mentioned in an inventory of the treasury of St. Sernin, in Toulouse, dated 1246.

Equally interesting and if not older is the tradition of jade carving in china. The rulers of Mughal dynasty in India were known for their partiality towards the Emeralds which they got engraved with prayers and sacred texts. These were then used as personal talismans and amulets. In the ancient Indian system of Navratnas, emerald is considered to be the gemstone of planet Mercury.

Engravings on an Emerald- These were considered as special Talismans by the Mughal Kings

There are many more treasures that sit preserved in museums and private collections. The secrecy, the aura of mystery and the exclusivity around them stand testimony to the incredible power that nature packs into the small package called the gemstone!

What is a Jyotish Gemstone and why any stone is not a Gemstone and any Gemstone is not a Jyotish Gem.

What is a Jyotish Gemstone and why any stone is not a Gemstone and any Gemstone is not a Jyotish Gem.

Flawless Unheated Burma Ruby for Harnessing Sun Energy-a Jyotish Gem-Gemstoneuniverse.com
Flawless Unheated Burma Ruby for Harnessing Sun Energy-a Jyotish Gem-Gemstoneuniverse.com

What is a Jyotish gemstone?

In Simple terms a Jyotish Gem is a Gem recommended on basis of sacred Astrological principles of Jyotisha to bring in dawn of fame and fortune and accomplishment of desires. But not every Gem is a Jyotish Gemstone.

A  Gemstone is a  Jyotish Gem only when it excels on all 4C’s-the cut, color, clarity and carat weight and the crystal is of exceptional lustre with a color so fine and closest to its true spectral color that it looks outstanding. Only an untreated Gem like that qualifies to be a Jyotish Gemstone and has the capacity to bring about promised results.

To understand what Jyotish Gemstones are, we must first understand the meaning of Jyotish. Jyotish is usually understood as Astrology, which to a certain extent is true, but the work JYOTISH is derived from two words, JYOT meaning light and ISH, meaning God, together meaning light of God. Jyotish is the science of light.

We know that everything in this universe is composed of cosmic rays, which are visible through a prism as the 7 basic colour or VIBGYOR. Gem therapy uses these cosmic rays, which represent different planetary energies to get positive results and to derive maximum benefits.

Quotes in Sacred texts regarding Jyotish Gemstones

“Inward glowing lustre, transparency, illumination with rays, sparkle, free from impurities and good formation of the shape are the characteristics of good gems” -(Agni Purana, 246.13-14).

“If anyone wears a gem of many flaws even out of ignorance, then grief, anxiety, sickness, death, loss of wealth and other evils will torment him” -(Garuda Purana, 70.19)

Gems have intrigued mankind since time immemorial. From the ancient times gem have been used to not as priced possessions of the rich and the royals but also to enhance the quality of life. Due to the rarity of pure gems today, a lot of new techniques are being developed each day to enhance the beauty of gems that are flawed, which are the accepted norm for jewelry purposes, but renders the gem useless for Jyotish purpose.

Any treatment of any kind to the gem takes away its Sattvik nature. Sattvik means pure and any treatment to enhance the beauty of gems are not acceptable for Jyotish use.

Sattvik Jyotish Gems harness Cosmic Rays
Sattvik Jyotish Gems harness Cosmic Rays

The five Basic Characteristics of a Jyotish Gemstone:

To get the best results from Gem therapy, gemstones must fulfil the following basic principles, without which a gem cannot qualify as a Jyotish gemstone.

1)      A Jyotish Gem is NATURAL: All gemstones must and should be 100% natural and untreated. The gem should not have undergone any treatment so as to enhance its colour or clarity or beauty. Any treatment renders even the most beautiful gem useless for Jyotish purpose.

2) A Jyotish Gem has fine COLOUR: All gems come with different shades of the same colour, depending on the origin. For example Emeralds from Colombia are usually a spring green colour, but Zambian Emerald are more of a vivid green, but whatever the shade of the colour, the purity of the original colour with only the slightest of hues of other colours are the best gems!

3) Jyotish Gem has exceptional CLARITY: Actually this is self-explanatory. But, as mentioned earlier, Jyotish or the Science of Light works with the cosmic rays, and for the cosmic rays to pass through clarity is very important in a Jyotish gemstone. Having said that, natural fine inclusions are the fingerprints of nature that prove the gemstone was created in a the lap of nature and not in a lab, and are generally acceptable, but any crystal Gemstone below 85% clarity level is not a Jyotish Gemstone.

4) A Jyotish Gemstone has a pleasing CUT: Again, the cut of the gemstone should be such that it allows for the maximum play of light and allows for maximum absorption of the cosmic rays and have positive effects. The shape of the gem is not as important as the precision cut of the gem.

SAPPHIRES IN DIFFERENT CUTS!

3)      CARAT: Some astrologers have given undue importance to the weight of the Jyotish gemstones. The knowledge of correct Gemstone weight is available only to a blessed few. Recommendation just on basis of body weight such as 1 carat per 10 Kg’s of body weight is a myth and not described in any sacred text. If we go by this technique than a 90 Kg’s man will require a 9 carat Diamond or a 9 carat Ruby. The root of this method is Greed driven by a desire to push non gem grade and low gem grade material as Gemstones.

Even a 1 – 2 carat gemstone, satisfying the above 4 aspects will give positive and good results. Generally gemstones above 2 carats satisfying the above conditions will give the best results.

Comments In The gemstone trade the word Gem is of importance, rarity and is like a title given to only the choicest and finest of Gemstones.

A Gemstone is called a Gem only when it excels on all 4C’s-the cut, color, clarity and carat weight and the crystal is of exceptional lustre with a color so fine and closest to its true spectral color that it looks outstanding.

Above is an example of one such”Gem”. Featured above is a fine Burmese Ruby of true imperial pigeon Blood color.

What exactly is Imperial Pigeon Blood color?

In the Book, Tavernier’s Travels In India (1640-1676), we read “Asking to see the pigeon’s blood is like asking to see the face of God.”

This color Ruby is supposed to be the choicest in Rubies. Imperial Pigeon Blood is pure medium dark red with around a 10-15% shade of Blue that combines with red to give an aristocratic and regal deep red purplish shade. When such a Ruby is set in bright rich yellow Gold of a high caratage the Blue gets muted to give you a stunning and unique scarlet red. An unheated and untreated Burma ruby that is Imperial Pigeon Blood red is so rare and unique in nature that it is the fate of a privileged few to view it and own it. Owning a Burma Ruby as the one featured above is like owing a piece of History.

What is a Jyotish Gemstone and why any stone is not a Gemstone and any Gemstone is not a Jyotish Gem.
